Minka Gantenbein - Minka Gantenbein

Minka Gantenbein is a freelance journalist from the beautiful Central Coast of California. She has a Bachelor of Science degree in Journalism with a concentration in News Editorial from California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo and a Multiple Subject Teaching Credential from Chapman University. She previously worked as a newspaper reporter for the Central Coast Sun Bulletin, the Mustang Daily and the Roadrunner.

Her background in education includes working as a tenured elementary school teacher. During that time she established a Dance and Performing Arts Club for students; taught after school ballet classes; served as a Career Day coordinator; represented the Business Leaders and Teachers Association; and piloted science programs for the Science Action Team. In addition she has worked as a Master Teacher for Chapman University student teachers.

Her wide array of interests include environmental conservation, a passion for music, party planning and interior design. Minka was a Global Awareness Coordinator at her University and helped to promote understanding of environmental conservation. After spending time in the rainforest in Costa Rica, she became even more determined to educate students on the importance of doing their part to help sustain the environment.

Minka enjoys going to concerts, spending time at the beach, creating fun activities to do with her children, and contributing ideas to her husband's award winning home design company. She is currently writing a novel based on the true account of her grandfather's life in Appalachia and their mysterious Melungeon ancestors of Newman's Ridge.
